The world’s first Blended Learning Education BSc. program in Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences

Bangkok, Thailand:

The extremely critical shortage of trained & competent Prosthetic and Orthotic clinicians in the world and their crucial importance to society is often not well understood. The World Health Organization has estimated the 2010 combined population of Africa, Asia and Latin America at approximately 6 billion with the estimated number of people in need of prosthetic and orthotic devices at 30 million. It is estimated that 40,000 trained personnel are needed immediately in the above noted countries to provide prosthetic and orthotic services to meet the needs of the population. Currently, more than 75% of developing countries have no accredited prosthetics and orthotics training programs, leaving a total of approximately 24 schools with varying levels and standards that are graduating no more than 400 personnel per year for all remaining developing countries. As long as this troublesome societal problem remains unsolved, the huge numbers of Persons With Disabilities will remain a welfare drain rather than contributing & employable members of society.

A Solution For the World

In close collaboration with the Medical Faculty, Mahidol University, the Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics & Orthotics, in Bangkok, Thailand, Human Study, e.V.  leads the worldwide first group of students to their BSc. This pilot batch of students from 4 different countries in Eastern Europe, has completed the World’s first International Upgrade Program through a Blended Distance Learning Coursework.
Mahidol University, the Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics & Orthotics, has expanded the program and opened opportunities for students in very many countries where there is a huge need of such services but no access to professional education in this field.
