William Neumann, CPO

Practitioner-clinician in Orthotic and Prosthetic practice since the early 70’s, following graduation from the (3rd) Northwestern University Prosthetic, Orthotic Education Program. Completion of required residencies in both prosthetics and Orthotics followed, along with examinations by the American Board for Certification (ABC) and award of Certified Prosthetist (CP) and later, full accreditation as Certified Prosthetist-Orthotist (CPO). In addition, was awarded credential by the USA Veterans Administration as VA-Qualified Prostheist (VAQP).

In USA clinical practice for nearly three decades, and served as President of the American Board for Certification (ABC), the American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists (AAOP) and as Chairman of the Board of the Orthotic & Prosthetic National Office, Executive Committee, representing the ABC, AAOP and the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA).

In 2009, he was presented the prestigious Distinguished Practitioner Award by the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists in recognition of dedication and leadership in the advancement of the ideals of the Academy.

 During entire career, he was active in both the USA and the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) issues as well as humanitarian missions, serving on a variety of committees as well as consulting, teaching and lecturing throughout the world. Since 1990, has been a voting member of the FO-4 Medical Committee, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM; USA Standards Development Organization). In addition, since 1988, he has served as an (O&P) Working Group Member of T echnical Committee 167-168, International Standards Organization.TC-167-168 develops O&P world standards, primarily related to nomenclature and surgical considerations.

Following the war in The Balkans and the acquisition of his active O&P practice in the Boston area by an international company, he moved to Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina for Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere), a humanitarian NGO, to develop a Balkans Pediatric O&P Program. Following the close of the Balkans mission in late 2002, he then accepted the position of International Clinical Educator for Becker Orthopedic Co. (USA) and established residency in Germany and Austria to develop symposiums, seminars, scientific programs and patient consults throughout Eastern and Western Europe, South America and Asia for Physicians, Physical-Therapists and Orthotist-Prosthetists, until 2006, when he assisted Human Study, e.V. (humanitarian NGO in Nuremberg, Germany) in the founding development of what has since become the only accredited O&P Program in the world with ongoing active blended distance learning educational programs for developing countries. To date, he remains a Consultant-Educator for Human Study, Past President of the Board of Directors and a Board Member.

In early 2012 he accepted a three + year, teacher-educator assignment for the Nippon Foundation, during the final management/transition phase and close of a long term educational grant expiring in May, 2015 at the Mahidol University, Faculty of Medicine, Siraraj Hospital, Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics & Orthotics (SSPO) in Bangkok, Thailand. He became Deputy Director of the Program during July 2012 and served in that capacity until close of the Nippon grant in May, 2015 when the Medical Faculty transitioned to total Thai Management of the Program.

Bill has remained in Thailand, where he is involved in continued program development, teaching and mentoring for Human Study,e.V.

Daniel Blocka, B.Sc., C.O.(c), F.C.B.C.

Dan Blocka is a Past President of ISPO after a term as President from 2007 to 2010. Dan also served as an ISPO Education Committee member in vary capacities from 1998 to 2019. Was the Chair of the Committee from 2004 to 2007. He currently serves on the Global Educators Meeting (GEM) Working Group.

In his roles with ISPO, Dan has been involved in over thirty ISPO evaluations and examination processes at various Prosthetic and Orthotic educational training programs worldwide and highly involved in the continued development of educational and professional standards and protocols for ISPO.

Since 1986, he has been a Professor and Coordinator of the George Brown College Prosthetic and Orthotic Educational Programs in Toronto and currently teaches in a part-time capacity. Dan has almost 35 years of experience as a teacher and clinical practitioner.

Since 1988, Dan has been the President and owner of Boundless Biomechanical Bracing Inc., a large clinical service provider in Orthotics in the Toronto area.

Dan was also on faculty as a lecturer in the School of Human Biology at the University of Guelph from 1985 to 2004.

In March 2011, Dan was appointed to the Board of Directors of Exceed, which is a UK based charity established in 1989 that works for equality for people with disabilities in the developing world.

Dan was also appointed as a Board of Directors of Human Study e.V. in 2018. Human Study offers a range of Prosthetic and Orthotic related educational programs that are delivered by means of a blended learning methodology.

Recently, Dan served as Vice-President of Orthotics Prosthetics Canada and also as the Chair of the OPC Professional Qualifications Committee

Other Notable Achievements:

  • Life Membership awarded by the Canadian Association for Prosthetics and Orthotics for his leadership and dedication to the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics in August, 2010.
  • Life Fellowship awarded by the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists in 1996 for outstanding contributions to the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics.
  • Nominee for the Premier’s Award in 2004 and 2006, awarded to outstanding graduates of the College Educational system in the province of Ontario, Canada.
  • Graduate from the School of Human Biology at the University of Guelph in 1981 with a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology.
  • Graduate of the George Brown College Clinical Methods in Orthotics and Prosthetics program in 1983.
  • Certified as an Orthotist by the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists in 1985.

Michael Rexing

Michael is a member of HS since 2010 and member of the Board since 2016. He also acts as a teacher in prosthetics and orthotics courses in many of our programs.

He has an extensive experience in treatment of Scoliosis, fabrication of braces and  orthotics of the lower limb and upper limb, fabricate and providing protheses of the lower extremities. He started his career as an Assistent CPO with Prof.Hohmann(Erlangen),  Prof. Henßge (Lübeck), Prof. Eichler (Wiesbaden), Prof. Heimann(Damp). From 1994 to 1997, Michael was the Manager of a manufacture company and service provider with up to 50 employees in collaboration with University of Clinic Heidelberg, Prof. Cotta.

From 1997 to 2006 Michael was the CEO of his own company in Heidelberg with up to 60 employees. Since 2006 he is a Consultant for Orthopedic Technologie and Organizational Development. (see full profile here)

 

 

 

Alain Plouffe B.Sc. Human Kinetics, C.O. (c)

Alain Plouffe is a Canadian Certified Clinician and Rehabilitation Coordinator at Island Health Authority (BC, Canada), where he is responsible for operational management of the regional Orthotics, Pedorthics, Prosthetics & Seating Program.

With over 22 years involvement in the Prosthetics & Orthotics industry, Alain has worked locally in Canada and abroad in Cambodia, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Mali, Nigeria, Cameroun, Albania and Uganda. Having held various roles in the private, public and NGO sectors, Alain draws on his experiences to enhance accessibility, quality and sustainability of assistive technology services for the physically disabled.

Alain is passionate about challenging best practice; viewing the P&O profession through a wide lens. Regularly pursuing ongoing clinical education, he has also pursued specialized development in Result Based Management, Strategic Leadership, Lean Design, Six Sigma, Systems & Design Thinking, and Global Health & Disability.

Alain has served as a Canadian P&O certification examiner since 2005, an evaluator for ISPO accreditation since 2012 and has volunteered with Human Study e.V. since 2018 as an examiner and member of the Board of Advisors.

John Mitchell 

John Mitchell is a dynamic business leader who took a small Canadian company (CMP Group Ltd.)  with initial revenues of less than $3 million and 13 employees  to an internationally recognized corporation that has revenues in excess of $65 million with operations in five different countries spanning four continents.

John attributes this remarkable success to his ability to form cohesive and innovative work groups by incorporating effective communication, interpersonal and entrepreneurial techniques that he developed over the breadth of his 42 year business career.

Walter Lee

Walter is the CEO of VENTURETEC MARKETING CO., LTD., BANGKOK, THAILAND. Founding member in establishing this international joint-venture marketing company to create, market and distribute its own brands of premium seafood and gourmet food products domestically and internationally. Brands include “Wasabi-O”, “Chef Kani Express” value- added products range of wasabi products and “Hippo” range of frozen dough meal solutions. Currently sold in 12 countries around the world.

He is also the Director of EXQUISINE SYSTEM CO., LTD. Founding member in establishing this international joint-venture restaurant franchise and management company. Brands include Coca Suki, Mango Tree Restaurant, Mango Tree Café, Mango Tree Bistro, Mango Chili and China White. Currently operating 68 restaurants in 21 countries.

Walter is the founder of THE V-SCHOOL, a boutique culinary management institute specializing in the art and science of mainly Japanese and Thai cuisine (Started by Chef Walter because of his passion for the world culinary delights through his travels around the globe and to propagate his personal style of classical and contemporary cooking, “cheffing” and “restauranting”).
